Oh, The Places You’ll Go!
As the school year wraps up, many of our amazing SWE members at Ohio State are heading into exciting and impactful internships across the country. From pharmaceuticals to aerospace, and from sustainability to software, these women are taking bold steps toward their futures. Check out where some of our members are headed this summer, and don’t miss their advice and inspiration!
Ally Lewis (Food Engineering, 3rd Year) will be working as an R&D Product Development Intern at Nestlé in Solon, Ohio this summer. Ally found this opportunity through a fellow SWE member and is a strong believer in the power of networking. Her advice? “Lean into your network to learn more about opportunities and experiences that might further your career, and don’t be afraid to leverage your connections on applications and interviews!” Ally has always loved the problem-solving aspects of math and science and is passionate about using engineering to uplift voices that often go unheard.
Gabie Gilmore (Environmental Engineering, 3rd Year) is joining Jacobs in Cincinnati, Ohio as an Environmental Remediation Intern, a position she discovered through WE24. Her advice is simple yet empowering: “Be open to new fields and opportunities! You are more qualified than you think you are.” Gabie’s passion for clean water access is what led her to engineering.
Emily Claypool (Chemical Engineering, 3rd Year) is headed to Merck & Co., Inc. in West Point, PA as a Vaccine Manufacturing Intern. She landed this role through a network from a previous internship. Emily encourages everyone to trust in themselves: “Be confident in yourself and your abilities! You can do anything you set your mind to!” Inspired by her grandfather’s battle with pancreatic cancer, Emily is pursuing a career in pharma to improve patient lives.
Shivani Rajgopal (Computer Engineering, 3rd Year) will be staying local in Columbus, OH, working at Immuta as a Product Engineering Intern — a position she found through cold outreach on LinkedIn. Shivani urges everyone to take chances: “Always take the chance to apply or reach out no matter how big or small the opportunity may seem… The right people will value you for who you truly are.” Her passion for engineering began in childhood and deepened when she was the only girl in her high school engineering class.
Izzy Piller (Industrial and Systems Engineering, 2nd Year) will be a Packaging Engineering Intern at Coca-Cola in Atlanta, GA, an opportunity she found through Engineering Career Services and Handshake. Izzy encourages persistence: “Send your resume everywhere. Even if you think a company will immediately reject you, you can’t knock it until you try.” Her drive for sustainability and designing for others began in high school and blossomed through Humanitarian Engineering Scholars.
Annelise Helwig (Chemical Engineering, 2nd Year) secured a role as a Nuclear Engineering Intern with Bechtel in Reston, Virginia, thanks to WE24. Her advice? “Go to as many networking events as you need to be comfortable with recruiters. The best conversations are natural and happen when you are fully confident to be yourself!” With a long-standing interest in renewable energy, Annelise is determined to help solve global sustainability challenges.
Maggie Foster (Computer Science and Engineering, 2nd Year) will be working at Crown Equipment in New Bremen, OH as a Software Development Intern. They connected with the company through WE24 and emphasizes the importance of being authentic: “Be your genuine self and make real connections with recruiters… your excitement will naturally shine through!” Maggie found their love for programming after taking classes in high school, and now can’t imagine doing anything else.
Emma Berlin (Aerospace Engineering, 2nd Year) is going to Northrop Grumman in Promontory, Utah as an Engineering Intern. Emma met her future employer at WE24 and shares this wisdom: “Be your genuine self and stay true to what you are passionate about.” She’s driven by a desire to make the world better and dreams of advancing space travel.
We’re so proud of these incredible Buckeyes and can’t wait to see the impact they make this summer. Go chase your dreams and support each other along the way because the future of engineering is bright, and it’s powered by women.
