Tips on education, skills, and accomplishments.
Education section tips:
- List all your previous educations (HS and up)! This lets LinkedIn algorithm show you current students, alumni etc. that you can connect and network with.
- Make sure to add your expected graduation date and any organizations that you were a part of when you attended that establishment. Many employers don’t necessary look through your entire profile (organizations is at the very end in the accomplishments section). This can show them a quick glimpse of what you are involved in if they look at education.
Skills Section Tips:
LinkedIn allows you to put your top 3 skills that will be visible upfront, tools & technologies you have experienced with & interpersonal skills (these 2 sections are not visible unless someone clicks on the Skills & Endorsements see all.
- Put any skills that you are confident in, have previous experience with and/or related to your major as your top 3. This can help your profile stand out to anyone who is looking for candidates for jobs that require said skills.
- Try to put technical skills as your top 3 skills which would differentiate you from other possible candidates or applicants. If you don’t have any, you can put interpersonal skills!
Accomplishments:
Accomplishments section consists of 4 sub sections: organizations, courses, honors & awards and languages.
Organizations:
- No leadership positions or in any organizations on campus? Feel free to add any involvements from high school. You can always remove them once you get more involved in college.
- You can further elaborate your involvement in an organization. Try to apply the tips from the experience section (max 3 bullet points, straight to the point, include any projects you worked on and include quantifiable results).
- This section is a great way to show leadership experience and further demonstrate skills appealing to the job industry (if you choose to elaborate as mentioned above).
Courses:
- Add any courses that you took that you learned a lot or gained skills from that are relevant to your major.
- Instead of adding every single class, you can be more selective as you further your education to see what courses truly developed your knowledge/skill set and/or are required by the jobs you are seeking.
Honors & Awards:
- List any accomplishments that you have achieved no matter how small or big that you are proud of! This can be another way to present your personality or passions.
- If you don’t have any, that is completely okay! This is just an optional section for anything you want to showcase.
Languages:
- Include any languages that your have experience with. You never know when that might help with landing a job!
- You can add how proficient you are in each language so you don't only need to add languages you are completely fluent in.
